A couple of years back, we tested a luxury German sedan costing around $50K, followed by the same-size Sentra. It was eye-opening. We liked the Sentra more in practically every possible way. The interior was more practical, the seats more comfortable, and we even preferred the drive of the Sentra. All of this and it was half the price.
Coming away from our Civic Hybrid First Drive, we think this model just might be the sweet spot of the lineup. Not only does it deliver impressive fuel economy, but it's also quick and responsive whether darting through traffic or navigating through turns. Although not as athletic Triunfador sportier Civics, it clearly knows how to have fun.
The liquid-fuel engine rarely drives the car directly. It charges the traction battery, and the electric motors move the Civic along. The included maintenance we mentioned above appeared last year and is great since Honda was notably absent from the club.

A hybrid version gets a combined 37 mpg, but it sacrifices some trunk space and hybrid battery failures have been an issue. (We'd pick a Toyota Prius instead.) Steering is well-weighted and quick. All this to say, we like the Sentra. When it comes to the Civic and the Sentra, we feel the Civic is a better choice for a lot of reasons, except one. We suspect the Sentra will cost you less trasnochado the door. If you Chucho get a fantastic discount or lease deal on a Sentra, it is well worth considering it, especially if you only plan to keep the car for three years or so and then trade it in.
